Quickie Post...

How's everyone doing today? We are still trying to survive the heat. Think it got to 99* yesterday. Just a tad too hot for me!

I finished another cr. st. exchange the other night, but can't show it yet, as I don't want to ruin the surprise, so was trying to figure out what to stitch next.
Kind of in the mood for Halloween or fall, so pulled out all the threads/fabric to start this one ~ Jolly Jack, by All Through the Night. Sorry for the blurred pic, I was in a hurry and got too close.
I'm pretty much a conservative Christian about most things, especially Halloween, but I do like to decorate and stitch for that season, however, I'm fairly picky about what I choose. I do NOT like anything evil looking or Satanic or anything like that, so I stick w/pumpkins, crows, cats and that sort of thing.
I tried my hand at dyeing some fabric w/blueberry juice. I was fixing blueberry muffins(from a mix) and saved the juice in a zip-lock baggie. Then I poured the juice directly into a desposible $$-Store roasting pan, and I made sure to wear plastic gloves.

See how different each piece looks using the same juice. I thought they looked perfect for a Halloween piece.
The fabric on the left was white 28ct. Monaco and turned out much lighter.

The one on the right was 32 ct. Lambswool linen.

I first showed you a sneak peek of this one, but finally finished this Shepherd's Bush~Be Brave, but don't have all the buttons stitched on yet. Was a bit late for the season, but since I have an Americana living room all yr. it will still go in there when I make it into a pillow.


Here's a casserole I fixed one night last wk. Yes, you are seeing right~ no cheese in the corner. My youngest doesn't care much for cheese, so whenever I use a recipe calling for cheese, I usually leave at least one corner off. He's not a real big eater either.

It does call for quite a bit of bread, but you can use the healthier kind instead. I have also made a similar recipe that used Bisquick instead of the bread, but it does change the taste just a bit.


I just used what I had on hand, but here's mostly what it calls for:
Quick and Easy Egg Casserole:


6 slices of bread, coursely torn
1 lb. of sausage(or you can use ham)
1 c. shredded cheddar cheese
6 med. eggs
2 c. milk
1 t. salt
1/4 t. pepper
Place bread in bottom of 9 X 13 greased pan
Sprinkle sausage over bread.
In separate bowl, beat eggs, milk, salt & pepper. Pour over bread mixture, sprinkle the cheese on top. (can refrigerate overnight at this point).
Bake at 350* for 40-45 min.s until set in the middle.

and speaking of b'days, mine is in 2 days, and I hope to be squishing sand between my toes for this yr's! See ya when I get back.

    I never would have thought of saving the blueberry juice for dying. Both pieces came out great and are perfectly suited for something halloweenish.

  5. I'm with you on Halloween Tanya. I don't do any of that either. As a matter of fact I just started collecting Halloween the past couple of years for that same reason. I don't do witches of any kind but they really aren't cute so that's not a tough decision for me. Haha! I mainly do pumpkins. Jolly Jack is a cute design.

    I'm not a purple person but that fabric is beautiful. I can't believe you dyed that with juice! Creative girl!
