Tabletop Tues. ~ part 3 of the kitchen tour(mostly cabinets)

Hop on over to Marty's and join in the fun!

Today I'm continuing w/my kitchen tour but also showing some 'tabletop vignettes) on my cabinet shelves, which will give you more 'bang for your buck', so to speak. LOL
This first cabinet is one that my dear hubby made for me as a surprise for our anniversary several yrs. ago. It is made entirely out of poplar wood, but I painted it black. It used to hold sewing tins and such out in my craft barn until the new kitchen redo. It is over 6 ft. tall. and about 4 ft. wide, but only about 12 inches deep. It has faux drawers, but the cabinets down below are real and house a shelf that holds some of my misc. kitchen items.
We had one long wall in our kitchen that was almost a decorator's nightmare, until I finally figured out what to put down that wall. As you enter the kitchen (to the right, opposite the maple cabinets I showed last time), these prim cabinets line up along the wall. Here is the biggest one in the middle.
Do you remember the little cabinet and shelf(on the right hand side) I showed a couple of weeks ago? These I found at two different prim shops.

Here's an 'old' sign I bought off of E~bay last yr. It just seemed to fit perfectly tucked away up there. I wanted more of a vintage farmstyle theme this time around. Don't ya wish those prices were true today?

This smaller cabinet to the left used to be painted country blue and had a checkerboard painted on the top of it and sat in our living room. I primed it, then painted it black to match the other cabinets. It houses some more vintage type kitchen items.

It has a thick wire screen in the doors that remind me of a chicken coop, so I thought the ceramic hen was fitting.

The wreath was on sale from Gooseberry Patch. I love the little utensils attached to it.

I crossed stitched the rooster way before I knew where it would end up.
I love anything w/polka dots!
Here's some of the reproduction antique items I put inside this little cabinet.

This muffin pan must be the real deal cuz it is super heavy!! I only paid $5.00 on clearance at a prim shop for it!

Like I've mentioned before, the walls are actually more a creamy yellow color called, Banana Cream, by Sherman Williams. They look more tan in the pic.

Here's some close-ups of the vintage items sitting on the shelves in the big cabinet.

I poured salt in the milk bottles. Got the idea from another site.

What is it about signs that I just can't resist?

That's all folks. Thanks again for stopping by and I'll be back soon w/some more goodies to share. In the mean time, have a blessed week everyone and I hope everyone remembers the true meaning of Easter!
It's not really about bunnies, chicks and eggs ~ it's all about our Savior's death and resurrection and all the horrific pain He suffered because of His great love for you and me! But it doesn't stop there! He offers us His unconditional love and eternal life w/Him in Heaven and says He'll never leave us or forsake us IF we're one of His children. We can have the most exciting personal relationship w/Him. That's all that really matters in this world.
Did you realize that if you were the only person ever born on this earth, He still would have died just for you? Isn't that amazing? It gives me chills to think about how great a love HE has for all of us, and all we have to do is accept His free gift of salvation. If you want to know more, please feel free to email me privately. I'd be honored to tell you all about it.

Kitchen tour part two and a recipe

Hi blogland buddies,
I hope you all are enjoying this wonderful weather that God is sending our way. Spring has finally reared it's beautiful head in our neck of the woods and I've enjoyed listening to the birdies tweeting their little hearts out, new buds on the trees, and a pop of bright yellow Jonquils poking through the ground recently. I simply cannot wait until the rest of the trees and flowers start to bloom ~ it is a beautiful sight to behold here in our area!
On my most recent post I told you I'd be back w/some more pics of our new kitchen, so here they are~ these are mostly of the cabinets, which go around on two sides. Our old kitchen was long and narrow, but we knocked out the back wall of our house, (which I will show renovation pics on another post later on), but we ended up w/about a 20X20 ft. square, which allows for a lot of space all around. We ended up going w/maple cabinets, praline stain, and a mocha glaze for just a touch of rusticness, (is that a word? lol). Our old cabinets were original to the house, back in the late '50's, not in very good shape so I had painted them a dark red. They were really more pitiful than primitive, so after 8 yrs. of cabinets that would not close all the way, it was time to move on.....

The double ovens we bought for half price. (I'm all for a bargain and saving a few bucks). Actually we got great deals on several of the appliances too.

I now have Easter dishes inside the glass cabinet. Mr. Fix It installed lighting both under the cabinets and above them. All I have to do is push the remote and wa-la, they turn on/off.
The breadbox has a tin punch panel in the front and a shelf inside. It really holds a lot of bread! To the left(under the double cabinet) is a 'hidden' tv that swings down and around for viewing, then tucks up underneath for saving space. That was one of my Christmas presents from Mr. Fix It.
The red basket holds snacks and I got it from Gooseberry Patch.
This is to the right of the corner cabinets.

We thought we'd try going w/a few extras in the new kitchen. This is a close-up of a 'pot filler' that we special ordered from a kitchen supply store where we bought our cabinets. The backsplash is that new faux tin panels in a 'smokey pewter' that you can find at Lowe's.
The red speckled stock pot I also bought from Gooseberry Patch when they had a sale right before Christmas.

These canisters I bought one at a time at Hobby Lobby w/my 40% off coupon. Just the other day I had Mr. Fix It spray the lids RED for me to give a pop of color on that side of the kitchen. I also added some labels to the glass fronts.
This is at the end of the right side. The door used to lead into the garage, but is now our master bedroom.
This is a vintage sign I bought off E~bay that goes between the fridge and our bedroom door.

A few posts ago I showed pics of our new laundry room and forgot to show a full view of the pie safe my MIL gave me. It holds all my Christmas dishes. It fits perfectly in the space and I like to decorate the top of it seasonally. We tried putting it in another room, but it didn't look right, so back to the laundry room it went.
Gotta tell you a funny story before I leave. The other night, Mr. Fix It mentioned there were no sweets in the house(meaning he was itching for me to bake something), so I had been wanting to
try a new recipe. I found a new sugar cookie recipe I'd never tried before. The recipe said to chill the dough one hr. Well, I got busy doing other things and it chilled for several hrs, as in, overnight! So yesterday I got the chilled dough out and it said to roll out the dough first and cut out w/cookie cutters. To save time I thought I'll just roll them into balls and let them spread out on the cookie sheet while they're baking. Several minutes later I went to check on them in the oven and they NEVER spread out. They still looked like miniature dumplings! LOL But the ironic thing was ~ they tasted great! Everyone popped them in their mouths like they were candy! So now we nicknamed them "Doughball Sugar Cookies"! LOL
Here's the real recipe if you want to try them, but please let me know how yours turn out! I guarantee you can't eat just one!
Best Ever Sugar Cookies
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teas. salt
1/2 teas. baking soda
1/4 teas. nutmeg
1/2 cup butter
3/4 cup white sugar
1/2 cup sour cream
1. Preheat oven to 350* (175* C)
2. Combine flour, salt, baking soda and nutmeg.
3. Cream together the butter and sugar. Blend in the sour cream; add dry ingredients.
4. Chill dough for 1 hr. Roll to 1/2 inch thickness on a sugar and floured surface.
5. Cut w/cookie cutter; bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 8-10 min's.
Easy peasy! Give 'em a try!
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy your weekend! Come back soon for part 3 of the kitchen tour!

Table Top Tuesday ~ Cherries Anyone???

Check out Marty's over at A Stroll Thru Life and join in on the fun!

Thought I'd give you a partial tour of our new kitchen. This isn't exactly a tabletop, but use your imagination bloggies! LOL

Who says you can't mix primitive w/vintage?? I was aiming for a more 'farmhouse' style this time around after having an 'country' apple theme in 3 different kitchens over the yrs.

The walls are actually a creamy buttery yellow(than what the picture shows) called 'Banana Cream' in SW paint. We went a shade or two lighter on the bottom half. There is actually beadboard wallpaper down below, but you can't tell unless you're standing 2 ft. away, which is a bit disappointing to say the least.
I love this little cabinet, because not only does it hold things inside the doors, but it has not one, but two shelf-like areas that can be decorated.

I found several of these cherry pieces at an estate sale last summer. The polka dot plates and pitcher I found at Marshall's. Can you tell I like 'red'?My MIL found the salt/pepper shakers at a flea market and I found the matching sugar dispenser months later at a country/prim store.

This little cupcake has a candle inside. The vintage doily was only $5.00 at that same country/prim store.
This is actually a spoon rest, but I'm using it for decor.

A good friend of mine made this cherry tile for me using rubber stamps.

Here's a few more dishes that I found at that estate sale. The neat thing about this shelf is I can change out the dishes seasonally if I want.

After eating on a dinky little table for almost 23 yrs. that barely seated 4 people, we are enjoying having a much bigger farmhouse style table to eat on. We took out the 2ft. leaf and the 2 extra chairs awhile back and it is still plenty big. I have so much fun decorating the table now, although it looks a bit bare in this pic.

This is a close-up view on one side of the shelf.

This one hangs on the other side. I hope you enjoyed my mini-tour of our new kitchen. I will try to post some more pics of the rest of the kitchen real soon! It's not all decorated w/cherries, but you will have to come back to find out what the rest of it looks like, so stay tuned........
Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!
